Anti-Microbial Efficacy Study
Silvex conducted an Antimicrobial Efficacy Time Kill study to determine how rapidly and effectively the Silvex plating silver-coated flatware kills or prevents the growth of microorganisms over time compared to non-silver-coated flatware.
The study evaluated the reduction of four microorganisms: Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans. Over various time intervals (1, 3, 5, and 24 hours), the silver-coated flatware demonstrated significant reductions in microbial presence compared to non-coated flatware, with reductions up to 99.99% for some bacteria.
Used Silver-Plated Flatware
The results indicated that used silver-coated flatware maintains its antimicrobial properties effectively.
For instance, Staphylococcus aureus showed an 8.40% reduction at 1 hour and 76.20% at 5 hours, while Pseudomonas aeruginosa exhibited a 98.00% reduction at 1 hour and 99.95% at 5 hours. The study concludes that silver-coated flatware continues to effectively inhibit microbial growth, supporting its use for enhanced hygiene.

New Silver-Plated Flatware
Using the same time intervals of 1, 3, 5, and 24 hours, the silver-coated flatware showed significant reductions in microbial presence compared to the non-coated control.
For example, S. aureus saw a 62.50% reduction at 1 hour and a 98.68% reduction at 5 hours, while P. aeruginosa had a 66.31% reduction at 1 hour and a 99.985% reduction at 5 hours.

Study Findings
The research findings indicated that silver-coated flatware can effectively inhibit the growth of harmful microorganisms, offering a valuable option for maintaining cleanliness in dining environments. A significant difference was noted in the reduction of microorganisms between the silver-coated flatware spoon samples and the non-coated control spoon samples for the various tested microorganisms over time. This implies that the antimicrobial properties of the silver-coated flatware persist even after prolonged usage.
